The Lord's Prayer

Chapter 62

Knocking

The Saviour says, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For everyone that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened." (Matthew 7:7-8)

This is said to show how surely prayers to the Lord are answered. Yet many people fail to receive any answers to their prayers. Why is it?

Very often it is because they do not stay to see the door opened, but, like the mischievous boy in the street, run away as soon as they have knocked. People are in too great a hurry to be off. The instruction is: "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord." (Psalm 27:14)

And David said: "O Lord, in the morning shall You hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer unto You, and will keep watch." (Psalm 5:3,RV)--Present Truth, August 30, 1894.
